The Return of the Summer Blockbuster, sorta
During my high school teenage years in the 80’s there were three certainies, working in the corn fields to earn money for school clothes, band camp always happend during the hottest week of the summer, and the summer movie block buster.
Growing up in rural Northwest Indiana in the 80’s was pretty simple and boring. The nearest shopping mall was around 45 minutes in either direction, and same for the movie theaters. Except during the summer, the drive-ins were open and could be found in nearby towns that were only 20 to 30 minutes away.
For a small town girl like me, movies and books were the great escape from the corn field ladden existance.
